April 13, 2015 - Fighting Back with Joy

The trip to the eye surgeon today confirmed what the doctors had seen happening last week - a "full thickness macular hole" which needs to be repaired. We still don't have a surgery date, but it is looking like it will be Friday. And I WILL be "face down" for a period of time afterwards. Initially they said it will be 5 days but that can change, depending on how things go with the gas bubble in my eye.
We rented a package of equipment that will help get through the "face down" time - a chair, a frame for sleeping, an alarm that goes off if my head is in the wrong position. It gets delivered on Thursday. We are trying to get things ready - food that's easy to eat, clothes that are easy to put on, that kind of stuff. It all seems a little surreal! And so many people have offered to help us. Thank you so much - I think we are all good!
This surgery definitely has surprised us, and delayed the reconstruction surgery that was scheduled for April 20 (which was disappointing), but it is not a surprise to God. The fact that our lifeGROUP is studying how to fight back with joy is no accident. Tonight, we talked about how much God loves us - with a fierce, fierce love. And if that is the case, I believe with all my heart that this isn't some kind of punishment or random event, but that God is going to use this for good and teach us something that we wouldn't learn any other way. So thankful that He is in control of our days!
"I paid a huge price for you... That’s how much you mean to me! That’s how much I love you! I’d sell off the whole world to get you back, trade the creation just for you." (Isaiah 43:4 MSG)
