In my case - I take an oral chemo that costs around $12,000 per month (for 21 pills). I also have an injection for bone metastasis that is over $5,000 a month. I have an eye injection for leaky blood vessels that is over $4,000 every four weeks. That is three medications - not counting scans, doctors visits, etc. I just checked and my medical bills for this year are already over $100,000, and they were last year as well. I am SO thankful for great medical insurance and for medical providers that do everything they can to find discounts and take away the burden of worrying about this stuff - but it's hard not to think about it.
Here's a little bit of the article the resonated with me!
"People living with metastatic cancer could use some guidance even on "seemingly irrelevant health decisions," they point out. For example, "Should we forgo routine prevention and screening for our other medical conditions? Is it pointless to be taking a statin when you don't even know if you should take a chance on purchasing airline tickets for a summer vacation? If you're living with metastatic cancer, even buying light bulbs can make you wonder whether you need ones that will last longer than you will." - Persons Living with Incurable Cancer a Growing, Negllected Group; Medscape.Com
