April 13, 2019 - Eye Surgery Memories

"Joy and laughter are the gifts of living in the presence of God and trusting that tomorrow is not worth worrying about." - Henri Nouwen

My post from 4 years ago today . 😴 It was a crazy time but I learned SO MUCH in those 12 days of being face down! I wouldn’t trade that time for anything and this picture makes me smile when I remember. God can use the things that we fear for good in our lives!

April 13, 2015 post:

The trip to the eye surgeon today confirmed what the doctors had seen happening last week - a "full thickness macular hole" which needs to be repaired. We still don't have a surgery date, but it is looking like it will be Friday. And I WILL be "face down" for a period of time afterwards. Initially they said it will be 5 days but that can change, depending on how things go with the gas bubble in my eye.

This surgery definitely has surprised us, and delayed the reconstruction surgery that was scheduled for April 20 (which was disappointing), but it is not a surprise to God. The fact that our lifeGROUP is studying how to fight back with joy is no accident. Tonight, we talked about how much God loves us - with a fierce, fierce love. And if that is the case, I believe with all my heart that this isn't some kind of punishment or random event, but that God is going to use this for good and teach us something that we wouldn't learn any other way. So thankful that He is in control of our days!

"I paid a huge price for you... That’s how much you mean to me! That’s how much I love you! I’d sell off the whole world to get you back, trade the creation just for you." (Isaiah 43:4 MSG)
