Having been part of a ministry team for many years (both as a staff member and a volunteer), those words have a different meaning for us than for many people. We look forward to all the family Easter traditions - but they happen on a different timeline. Our Easter dinner typically happens the Monday after Easter.
Why?
Because Easter brings responsibility. So many people come to church on Easter; it may be the only time they come to church all year and we want to be ready to welcome them. It is ALL about the one who is coming to church for the first time; who is there because a family member has been bugging them; the one who decides to give church one more chance in the middle of struggle with life’s challenges; the lonely widow, the newly divorced person, the family who was just hit with devastating news.
We have the privilege of sharing good news with the hurting, of wrapping them in the warmth of Jesus’ love for them. After all, that is why He did what He did. He died to give us life and hope.
Some people might say “I don’t want to serve on an Easter team; it’s my family time.” I encourage you today to look at this from a different perspective; to remember what life was like when you needed to know that someone cared, and to commit to paying forward the love and compassion that Jesus showed for us.
Volunteer at your church this Easter - there is nothing more important. If you attend LF, just go to the app, look for “ALL IN”, find your campus and sign up to serve Easter weekend!
