Warning: serious post
October is breast cancer awareness month - and I want to talk about people in the breast cancer community who are new to me. The group of people with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer, or METAvivors. When I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, I didn’t realize how many people ultimately move to stage 4, and how much research funding goes to stage 4 treatments. It’s a low percent - and that is very sad because even though people are living longer with stage 4 breast cancer, there is no cure.
If God doesn’t intervene, the normal path is that I will be on some kind of treatment for the rest of my life - and most treatments have side effects, as I am already experiencing. As treatments quit working, I will move to the next and the next, until ultimately the cancer cells outsmart the treatments available. God can change any of that - but that is typical.
“Thinking pink” is great - but remember stage 4 research! METAvivor.org
